Under the Tenant Fees Act 2019, you cannot be asked to pay a deposit greater than 5 weeks' if the annual rent is less than £50,000. For example, if your monthly rent was £600, your landlord cannot charge you more than £750 for the deposit. However, the deposit can be six weeks’ rent where the total annual rent is £50,000 or above.
