Overriding Interest

This is an interest (right, claim or privilege) to possess or use land which is not written on the land register, but is still enforceable against the registered owner of the land. Overriding interests are meant to protect people against purchasers of land when it is not reasonable or sensible to require them to register their interests. They are listed in Schedules 1 and 3 of the Land Registration Act 2002.
